One month into the fall semester and I'm already crying into my pillow wishing I was back in the city every time the sun goes down. After the big 2-1 birthday last month I was stoked and began ravaging the bars of the lower west side of the city to fortify myself for the inevitable return to the upstate boondocks. The place I miss most? A stunningly common, by which I mean fabulous bar on West 4th and Cornelia Street, lovingly called "The Four Faced Liar."

Classic bar lighting and the familiar strains of Journey and Billy Joel for the patrons to croon along to, this place while appearing ordinary draws one of the most fun-loving and exciting crowds I have ever seen. It's also nice from the female perspective because stillettos are not in the dress code here, nor are guys swathed in Abercrombie and Fitch with popped collars (yes, odd I know but regular guys still exist sometimes).My personal recommendations for beverages? I'm partial to the Whiskey Sours and Lynchberg Lemonades but drink the latter with caution, they can be lethal particularly if you get the bartenders in really happy moods. The bartenders that I've had there are also always up for experimenting so break out of your routine and try something new.

Another plus, as soon as you get the overwhelming desire to consume as much food as humanly possible, there are incredible mexican restaurants across the street, thai restaurants a few blocks down, and if you're feeling uber classy, or like me your still in college there is a Dominos three blocks over and I solemnly swear that nothing goes better with beer than cheesy bread.
