    DJ SLOTS!

    Wednesday, September 5, 2007, 06:56 AM [General]

I am spinning at club on Friday night - a ladies only party that happens once a month at this particular club with one particular organiser. The crowd is usually the same but fickle and the organiser seems to want to please them all, I quite admire her courage and tenacity for doing so but unfortunately as we know we cant please all the people all the time and have to suffice with pleasing 80% of the people most of the time. Its a great party with loads of potential and between 300-600 people almost every month.

The organiser has decided that she is having 4 guest DJ's: 1 she hasnt heard but she thinks might be popular, the 2nd DJ who has a different style whom she isnt really sure the crowd will like, myself and a buddy who have worked together before and some live act doing some song......and hasnt really organised the line-up properly, her comment to me was " I cant really get my head around the music issue this month" WHAT KIND OF COMMENT IS THAT????? Music is everything, music is the vibe, music makes or breaks a party! AND DJ's need slots!

    My personal feelings:

    1. DJ'S ARE TERRITORIAL AS HELL and why shouldnt we be? I must have impressed someone to get the popular slot.

    2. Parties and clubs should be organised from word go. Designated times by crowd choice.

My solution to the organiser was simple I will do the early set, 1 guest DJ do the middle set and have someone else do the late set. Simple solution. Or a 2 hour set each at designated times.

The last time I was at this same club some amatuer pretty little blonde got behind the DJ box and bust my headphones  it was a lack or organisation on behalf of the organiser who insisted the girl do a set -  NOT THIS TIME BITCH! YOU WANT TO BE A DJ - YOU GET YOUR OWN SLOT!!

The Vibe in SA - Some black influence - chapt 1

    Friday, August 17, 2007, 01:52 AM [General]

Since I am the only South African on this site ( I have yet to notice any other SA DJ's here....) let me explain the vibe a little....

The South African club vibe is extremly diverse - My knowledge extends to Johannesburg and Cape Town moslty so I stand to be corrected....

lets start for instance with our black community - which adds so much flavour to our country with genre's such as Kwaito - which is a South African form of house music - The Wikipedia explanation is as follows:

Kwaito is a music genre that emerged in Johannesburg, South Africa in the early 1990s. It is based on house music beats, but typically at a slower tempo and containing melodic and percussive African samples which are looped, deep basslines and often vocals, generally male, shouted or chanted rather than sung or rapped. More recently, Kwaito artists like Zola have rapped their lyrics in a hip-hop style, while others such as BOP and Oskido have sped up their beats and toned down the male chants to create a softer form of Kwaito or african house. Other prominent kwaito artists include Arthur, Mandoza and Mzekezeke. Kwaito's lyrics are usually in indigenous South African languages or in English, although several languages can be found in the same song. The name Kwaito itself is derived from the Afrikaans word Kwaai, meaning "angry", a word that has acquired a "cool" connotation

On a personal level I love the music it gets a party started and as a white person enjoying this style of music I am seen as quite progressive in my taste!

I DJ'ed a private function for some "buppies" - Black up and comming young professionals - a group of accountants - I was nervous at first but after the party the crowd was very impressed and wouldnt let me leave - which was a great compliment to me because I had never really been exposed to this type of music growing up.

to get a tast of this kind of music go to the following link: http://www.outhere.de/index.php?goto=r6

Please let me know what you guys think!
